STATEMENT BY JENNIFER KEESMAAT ON TODAY’S EMERGENCY MEETING AT CITY HALL
TORONTO – AUGUST 18TH 2018: Today at Toronto City Hall, Council will be meeting to decide its response to Doug Ford’s swipe at our democracy.
I stand with all of you who have felt let down by your city’s leadership these last few weeks, and I applaud those who are fighting for Toronto’s interests. But it didn’t need to come to this. If we had a stronger mayor in the chair, Doug Ford would have thought twice before swooping in and upending our elections.
Doug Ford didn’t tell the mayors of Ottawa or London or Kingston how to run their elections, but he did in Toronto because he knew John Tory wouldn’t stand up for this city.
As your mayor, I would have fought for Toronto from the start and every step of the way. It’s time for leadership that stands up for Toronto.
