STATEMENT FROM JENNIFER KEESMAAT ON THE LABOUR COUNCIL’S ENDORSEMENT
TORONTO - September 21, 2018: I am honoured that the Toronto and York Region Labour Council has decided to endorse me for Mayor of Toronto.
For more than 140 years, the Labour Council has been fighting to protect and advance the rights of the men and women who have built our city and helped to make it the special place it is today. It represents more than 200,000 workers across the city, and is a vital partner in our shared goal of building a better city that works for everyone.
We need strong leadership to tackle the issues facing working families in this city.
Over the last four years, Toronto has become more unaffordable, we’ve spun our wheels on transit, and our city is less safe. These are real issues that require real solutions.
In our efforts to make Toronto a more livable and affordable place for everyone, we are up against interests who want to maintain the status quo that has served them well — people like John Tory.
My vision for our city is one in which people from all walks of life feel that their city leaders are working for them and their best interests. I want people from every neighbourhood empowered and engaged in the process of building a better city that works for everyone, and I’m thrilled to have the support of the Labour Council as we pursue that goal.
